HOW I CLEAN & STORE MY BELOVED BLANKET SCARF

Goodbye summer! Hello autumn! I love fall, bonfires, crunchy leaves, hot chocolate, Halloween and of course new scarves!

A scarf is an accessory you should always have on hand in fall. I’m huge fans of blanket scarves because they are cozy and can be worn in versatile ways. My personal favourite recently is Lamamamas plaid scarf, simply because plaid is one of the hottest trends of 2018.

These are honestly the BEST scarves. I love mine in mix red, it looks stunning just again basic striped top. The blanket scarf keeps me extremely warm when I’m out. At home, this gorgeous soft scarf adds an element of cozy without the bulk on a sofa or armchair. I have friends that haven’t washed their scarf since they bought it, but since I pretty much live in my beloved blanket scarf, it does need a clean 2 to 3 times in a season.

I always hand-wash my scarf in cold water with a mild detergent (I actually use my baby’s Cetaphil Baby Wash and Shampoo because its scent is very soft). I do not suggest machine wash as this may disfigure the shape of your scarf. I lightly knead the scarf and let soak for about 10 minutes.  Then I rinse it with cold water. I don’t wring excess water but just lightly pad tries it with a bath towel and lay it flat to try. Do not hang a wet scarf on the hanger, it causes massive stretching.

If you don’t wear a blanket scarf often like I do, once in a while give your scarf a thorough airing and steam. Hang your scarf in a closed bathroom while showering, and the steam should help drop out any creases and wrinkles, while also removing odours.

There are lots of creative ways to organize your scarves. I simple stick to two rules, keep them in shape and stay out of the sunlight. I swap mine between hangers, drawer, scarf organizer so they don’t stay in a shape for too long.
